Villages in darkness after vandals steal transformer

Residents of Siriat and Olmelil in Trans Mara East Subcounty have been without electricity for nearly a year after vandals stole a transformer from the area.

The community is now threatening to stage a protest demanding another transformer.

"This coming Monday, we will demonstrate against vandalism because we have informed our MP, Johanna Ngeno, and Kenya Power about the issue, yet our grievances have not been addressed. We are still in darkness," said Barnabas Rono, a resident.

Rono explained that the theft has severely affected business activities, leading to significant economic setbacks for the community.

Another resident, Josephine Ngeno, highlighted that the lack of electricity has disrupted farming activities, forcing residents to seek alternative methods to care for their livestock and tend to their farms.

She added that local health facilities and institutions, like Kabuson Comprehensive School, have also been impacted, requiring residents to travel to other areas for health services.

Ngeno called for action against the gang responsible for the vandalism, emphasizing the need for decisive measures to prevent further losses and deter future incidents.

"We are tired of a few individuals disrupting our lives for quick cash," she stated.
