ODM leader Raila Odinga has claimed that he rejected an offer from opposition leaders to join their efforts in pushing back against the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Raila alleged that he was offered a deal to be backed for the presidency in 2027 elections, in exchange for returning the favour in 2032.
“Some people said we were outsiders...These are the same people who claimed that if you did not vote for them, then you don’t have shares. One of them even said that if he found us in the queue to State House, he would remove us. Can you really work with such a person?” he posed.
Speaking in Rarieda yesterday, the ODM chief said that he is committed to working with President William Ruto.
“I am going nowhere. I will not abandon Ruto because I know where we are heading to. We will walk together in unity to reach our destination,” he added.
The former Prime Minister said that no one can purport to give his supporters any political direction, stating that at the right time, he will provide direction.
He criticized those he claimed had already embarked on early campaigns, maintaining that it was not time for politicking.
He told his supporters that it was wise to always find ways of dealing with political opponents.
“We have taken a very bold step by working with the Kenya Kwanza government. We do not have to stay or let our people stay in the cold all the time. Anytime we find a chance that can change the lives of our people, we take it,” he said.
He said the decision to work with President Ruto has not hindered him and his supporters from moving forward.
He was accompanied by Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, who said that Raila had given them the go ahead to work and support the Kenya Kwanza government.
Wandayi, who condemned the June 25 anniversary protests, said it was a scheme by the opposition to bring turmoil to the country.
He condemned critics of the government, whom he claimed were keen to bring confusion to the country.
