Isiolo County Assembly has denied claims that it held a sitting on Thursday, June 26, to discuss the impeachment of Governor Abdi Guyo, calling the reports false and politically engineered.
In a statement, Assembly Clerk Salad Boru said no such session took place and warned the public against being misled by what he described as a growing wave of politically motivated misinformation.
“There was no sitting held or facilitated by this Office regarding impeachment proceedings against the Governor,” said Boru, adding, “We are bound by active court orders that prohibit the Assembly from advancing the matter at this time.”
The motion to remove Governor Guyo was first tabled on Tuesday, June 10, by Sericho Ward Member of County Assembly Abubakar Godana.
It cited several leadership failures, including the stalling of development projects, failure to meet revenue targets and an inflated executive structure.
According to the motion, the governor appointed 36 advisors and 31 chief officers despite Isiolo receiving the third-lowest revenue allocation nationally.
He was also accused of issuing two-year contracts to chief officers, creating what the Assembly termed an “environment of fear and uncertainty.”
The motion alleged that Guyo failed to renew the contracts of 20 chief officers and instead selectively renewed five through a questionable process.
However, the impeachment push was halted after the courts intervened. On Tuesday, June 17, High Court Judge Heston Nyaga certified the governor's application as urgent and issued orders barring the Assembly from admitting, processing, debating or considering the motion until the matter is heard and determined.
In his suit, the governor accused the Assembly and Speaker Mohamed Roba of violating due process and failing to share the motion documents.
The court ordered that he be furnished with the documents within 48 hours.
Boru said the Assembly had not issued any notice or order paper nor deployed officers to facilitate any sitting, formal or informal, related to the motion.
“These allegations are part of deliberate attempts to undermine lawful procedures and mislead the public,” noted Boru.
He also reaffirmed his role as the legitimate clerk, saying any person claiming to act on his behalf has no legal authority to do so.

“The public should disregard any suggestion that an impeachment sitting was held,” explained Boru. “The removal of a governor follows a strict constitutional process and cannot be conducted through informal declarations or press conferences.”
He added that the Assembly remains committed to lawful, transparent and accountable operations in line with standing orders and judicial directives.
