Shock and grief engulfed Malava Constituency after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary aspirant Dr Enock Andanje Musambai was announced dead on arrival at Oasis Hospital in Kakamega shortly after collapsing during a campaign rally at Bulupi Primary School, West Kabras Ward.
Dr Andanje, who was seeking the UDA ticket for the Malava by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025, arrived at the venue in his vehicle and, when he tried to talk to his supporters through the sunroof, he was overwhelmed and collapsed inside his car.
He collapsed just near the entrance of the school gate before making his way towards the podium where his fellow aspirants and party leaders were seated to take part in the women empowerment drive led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet, Members of Parliament and a host of local leaders.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is spearheading UDA’s campaigns in the constituency, confirmed the death, describing Dr. Andanje as a devoted leader and an education champion.
“It is with deep sadness that I confirm the passing of our aspirant, Mwalimu Dr. Enock Andanje Musambai. He was a committed leader who believed in unity and service. We stand with his family during this difficult moment,” Mudavadi said.

Until his death, Dr Andanje was a former Chief Principal at Bungoma High School, where he earned respect for his dedication to improving education standards in Malava.
Colleagues described him as a progressive leader, vocal and hardworking, with a tireless passion for transforming the constituency’s education system.
Farouk Kibet, a close ally of President William Ruto who had campaigned alongside Dr Andanje earlier this week, also conveyed his condolences and urged supporters to maintain respect and unity during the campaigns.
Mudavadi, who was tasked by the UDA leadership weeks ago to lead the party’s campaigns in Malava, used the meeting to call for unity and discipline among party members.
Mudavadi urged aspirants to publicly assure residents that they would stick with UDA after the primaries, warning that defections would weaken the party’s chances.
“Our politics should be about ideas, not personal ambition,” he said.
Andanje's body has been moved to Kakamega County General Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.
