Business was brought to a standstill as youths engaged the Police in running battles in Kitengela Town as they marked one year since the 2024 Gen Z demonstrations.
Police officers hurled teargas canisters at the youths who were chanting the ‘wantam’ slogans as they protested along the Nairobi-Namanga Road, calling for justice for their colleagues who lost their lives.
The youths surrounded police vehicles as they chanted slogans critical of the government, which they accused of killing innocent youths across the country.
“We want justice for the innocent youths killed by the government, which has also failed to keep its promise to stop abductions," chanted some youths.

The hundreds of protesters braved on despite the heavy presence of Police Officers with two water cannons backing them up in efforts to contain the huge crowds that turned up.
At one point, a young lady carrying a national flag braved the heavy teargas smoke as her colleagues took shelter before they later joined her, lauding her bravery.
The youths lit bonfires at Mlolongo and Kitengela Towns as they barricaded the roads with rocks which were removed by the Police Officers.
The youths said they were out to carry peaceful demonstrations to point out the ills committed by the Kenya Kwanza administration, which they accused of falling short of the expectations of Kenyans.
“We are peaceful Kenyans exercising our constitutional rights to demonstrate. Why are police attacking us, we are saying no to Police brutality," said the youths.
The youths said they will register in large numbers so as to exercise their democratic right of sending the government home since it had failed Kenyans.
They accused the government of coming up with unpopular economic policies that made life difficult for citizens and refused to listen to them whenever they raised complaints.
They wondered whose interests the government was serving by failing to listen to what the majority of citizens were saying, which is a call for good governance.
“We want to know whose interests this government is serving since it is not listening to the people who put it into office, " said the demonstrators.
