Ruto, Raila allies dominate list of nominees for national honours

The Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee has published a list of at least 60 nominees, majority of who are sitting Members of Parliament sympathetic to President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s broad-based government, proposed to be conferred with national honours this year. 

Among the nominees are senators, MPs, and parliamentary staff recommended for recognition under different categories, including the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear, Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear, Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear, Head of State Commendation.

Among the 60 nominees, 11 are senators, 35 are Members of the National Assembly while the 14 are senior government officials drawn from various departments.

Minority Whip Silvanus Osoro a defender of the  broad-based dream has been nominated for the CBS alongside the Minority Whip Junet Mohammed.

Junet on June 23rd 202o told a National Assembly sitting that as members holding leadership roles in parties they serve at the beck and call of the party leader. Commenting on the removal of then majority leader of the house Aden Duale he said “...and to the former majority leader, brother when you see us following baba like cows it is because we are fearing consequences like the one you are facing now. So politics is like that mkubwa. If you go against the wishes of the people who own parties in this country....you will have it rough.  That is why me I will sing baba throughout”.

Others in the list are National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Gladys Boss, Narok Senator, also the Minority Whip Ledama Ole kina, Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga) now leading the Public Accounts committee following implementation of the broad-based dream, Dido Raso (Saku), Liza Chelule (Nakuru Mp), William Kamket (Tiaty) who has asked Ruto to rule firmly and without flinching, Dismus Barasa (Kimilili) who does not waste a moment to defend the indefensible of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Others are Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Hillary Kiplangat (Kipkelion West), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) and Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West) who are proposed to be granted the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).

Other MPs proposed to be granted CBS honors include Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon), John Waluke (Sirisia), Sarah Korere (Laikipia North) among others.

Those to be granted the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH) include Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Chairperson,  Mary Chebukati, and nominees for Order of the Grand Warrior include Directorate of Socio-Economic Committees in the Senate, Mary Chesire, Senate Liaison Office Director Dr Philip Buchere and Directorate of Legislative and Procedural Services in the National Assembly, Kipkemoi arap Kirui and Head of State Commendation (HSC) to Millicent Odera, Senior Superintendent in Joint Services among others.
