The bodies of three men who went missing two days ago from Kiambogo village in Naivasha have been found at the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
The three were reportedly involved in three separate accidents before police collected their bodies and transported them to the public facility.
The men were struck and killed by vehicles near the Flyover trading center along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in a series of incidents that occurred within a few hours, causing considerable concern in the region.
The bodies were traced to the mortuary two days after police collected them.
In the first incident, a 28-year-old quarry worker was hit by a car while crossing the busy highway and died on the spot. As his colleague rushed to assist him, he was also struck down by a second vehicle.
The occupants of both cars reportedly escaped with minor injuries. James Kabono, who chairs the Naivasha Road Safety Association, said the deaths have raised anxiety in the area, with some alleging that the two men were killed by police while participating in a demonstration.
“The two men were working in a quarry when one was hit by a vehicle, and as the other rushed to help, he was also struck and killed by another car,” he stated.
Kabono added that in the third incident, another man was crossing the road near the site of the earlier accidents when he was also hit by a speeding motorist.
"The police collected the bodies, which unfortunately did not have any identification documents, and took them to the Naivasha mortuary. The families learned of their deaths two days later," he explained.
Kabono mentioned that they visited the mortuary and positively identified the three bodies, concluding that there was no foul play involved.
A senior police officer from Magumu, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the three incidents and noted that the motorists involved have since provided their statements.
“When the bodies were collected, none had identification, so they were taken to Naivasha mortuary. The families have since identified them,” he said.
